Save the Date for Creative Encounters: A Fairytale Evening of Dance and Celebration! Journey with us as Guest Artist, Yoshito Sakuraba, takes us on an adventure inspired by Japanese fairytales and anime. Enjoy cuisine and cocktails honoring the rich culture of Japan along with a preview performance of Sakuraba's new work on the company.  Join us in fundraising for the Halsted Choreography Fund's Maxine Doyle project.

A multidimensional festival bringing artists ages 15-25 together from a variety of different stages of development within the profession, NewDANCEfest provides daily technique classes in a variety of styles, choreography seminars, discussion forums, critique sessions, mentorship opportunities, informal showings and performances. NDF offers a space and opportunities for all; dancers and emerging choreographers alike!

Our NewDANCEfest Youth Division returns this summer for ages 10-14, fostering creativity and confidence in a supportive environment! Dancers will partake in classes in a variety of techniques, in addition to gaining experience in movement creation and composition. This youth intensive culminates in an informal showing for family and friends!

In August 2025, Eisenhower Dance Detroit is U.P.rooting and partnering with the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts in breathtaking Houghton, Michigan for our third annual U.P.rootEDD intensive, to offer one week of intensive training and mind-body centering by the company’s artistic leadership and professional dancers. Held on the campus of Michigan Technological University, dancers from all over the country are invited to enjoy the beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula while receiving some of the best instruction in the country.

The Egg and Union College Present: Eisenhower Dance Detroit

A “can’t miss” evening of dance awaits New York audiences, which includes audience favorite “Legacy Island” by Norbert De La Cruz III; the intricate “En-code” by Australian, disabled choreographer Marc Brew; a provocative work by Micaela Taylor titled “Hyper;” and the poignant “See Me” by Christian Denice. Rounding out this unforgettable performance will be “State of Mind” by award-winning EDD Artistic Director, Stephanie Pizzo, featuring Union College dancers. The performance is the culmination of the company’s four-day Stephanie C. Davis Dance Residency in the Capital Region.

Meet the Dancers & Season 34 Launch Party

During this signature community event, get up close and personal with EDD's professional dancers, as well as the students of EDD Youth Ensemble. Take in a performance and enjoy light refreshments following the show as we launch Season 34! There will be two performances: one at 1pm (House will open at 12:45pm for the first performance) and one at 2:30pm. Event attendees will be entered in a drawing to win two tickets to our Sugar Plum Fairy Tea Party during EDD Youth Ensemble’s production of The Nutcracker!

EDD at Detroit Month of Design Closing Party

Get closer to movement at Michigan Central Station. EDD dancers will greet attendees through dance improvisation wearing designs by Detroit Month of Design artist, Nabeela Najaar and will perform Pizzo's "Surge" with original composition by Detroit techno artist Aaron Siegel and costume design by CCS graduate, Cristen Richards.

Celebrating Black History Month: Master Class with Celia Benvenutti

Join us for a master class with Celia Benvenutti in recognition of Black History Month! Registration information coming soon.

About Celia Benvenutti:

Celia Benvenutti (b.1988) is an Afro-Puerto Rican dance artist, native Detroiter, Howard University alumna and certified Dunham technique instructor. She has been studying dance for 30 years under the tutelage of master teacher and certified Dunham technique instructor Penny Godboldo, former head of the department of dance at Marygrove College in Detroit, MI. Benvenutti’s background includes extensive training in the Dunham Technique, classical ballet, modern (Horton and Graham), jazz, traditional African, Afro-Cuban, Haitian and Puerto Rican Folklore. Celia was principal dancer in Taurus Broadhurst Dance: A Contemporary African Company located in Washington D.C. from 2012-2016. In 2020, she was awarded a local choreographic residency by Collective Sweat Detroit and the Gilda Snowden Emerging Artist Award for dance and choreography through the Kresge Foundation. She is currently a member of Ozzie Rivera’s RicanStruction, a Detroit Puerto Rican folkloric dance troupe. She is also part time dance faculty at Wayne State University and a teaching artist for Living Arts, a non profit arts organization located in the heart of Southwest Detroit. Her artistic goals focus on facilitating and encouraging liberation of the mind, body , and spirit through dance.

Spotlight Series: In Conversation with India Bradley

Join us for a virtual conversation with New York City Ballet’s India Bradley in celebration of Black History Month. Ms. Bradley recently made history with her historic debut as Dewdrop in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, making her the first Black ballerina to dance this major role.

Master Class with Christopher Huggins

Join us for a master class with Christopher Huggins!

About Christopher Huggins:

Christopher L. Huggins is a visionary, dance innovator. He is an Alvin Ailey disciple, and historian; developing multilayered, storytelling through dance. Christopher attended Purchase University, the Julliard School and was a merit scholar at the Ailey School. He’s a former soloist of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Aterballetto of Reggio Emilia, Italy. His work is rooted in research that memorialize our darkest history. This is found in his ballet THE LIST, a story about the systemic genocide of a Jewish family and those in concentration camps. His ballet NEW FRUIT, inspired by Nina Simone’s music, documents terror lynching.

Through his dance initiative, he provides access to emerging dancers and choreographers to study abroad with him. He works around the globe and held residencies at over 25 universities and colleges.

Christopher is a multi-award winner including: two Alvin Ailey Awards from Black Theater Alliance, a Walt Disney Diversity award, a Critics Choice award and silver medalist of the International Dance Competition in Seoul, Korea. He holds the distinction of being “repetiteur” of Mr. Ailey’s ballets. Learn more about Christopher’s artistry here. As he continues his dance legacy, Christopher wants his work to heal, entertain and inspire mankind.

Joshua Peugh Residency

Joshua Peugh will be in residence with Eisenhower Dance Detroit from November 5-17, 2023, in collaboration with Wayne State University’s dance department. Mr. Peugh’s work for the company will premiere at the university’s December Dance Concert. This will be Joshua Peugh’s second work set on our company members. His other work in EDD’s repertory, Cues, toured to Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in the summer of 2019.
