Eisenhower Dance Detroit - one of the Midwest’s leading contemporary dance companies - has commissioned acclaimed choreographer Maxine Doyle to create a new work, I Am Not Myself, premiering at the Detroit Institute of Arts in April 2026.
While Doyle is in Detroit for her six-week residency working with the Eisenhower dancers, she will appear in person for a preview performance and conversation co-presented by Michigan Central Art and the Detroit Institute of Arts, held in the iconic South Concourse at The Station.
Renowned for her cinematic approach and psychologically charged movement language, Doyle is best known as Co-Artistic Director and Choreographer of Sleep No More, the groundbreaking immersive production that redefined site-specific performance in New York and London. Her choreographic credits span Broadway, the Royal Opera House, Pina Bausch Foundation, and numerous international collaborations with Punchdrunk International, where her distinctive style bridges theatre, dance, and film to create emotionally resonant, multidisciplinary experiences.
This evening offers audiences a rare opportunity to engage directly with Doyle and the artists of Eisenhower Dance Detroit for an intimate glimpse into her creative process and an early look at a powerful new work in development, her only U.S. project this year.
