When one thinks of dance in Detroit, Carol Halsted is the first name that will come to top of the list. Carol's impact on the dance community spans more than four decades and at least two generations of dancers. As the founding dance faculty at Oakland University; Carol was instrumental in hiring Laurie Eisenhower as a full time university dance professor; and together they built the university's dance program and founded Eisenhower Dance Ensemble. Carol was the first Board Chair of the fledgling company. Under her watchful eye, the company was able to grow from a locally based ensemble to an internationally touring and critically acclaimed contemporary dance company. Her belief in the talents of Ms. Eisenhower and her vision of Detroit as a dance mecca, has sustained Eisenhower Dance and the greater dance community. Her legacy lives on in the performances of the children at the Eisenhower Dance Centers in Birmingham and Rochester; which she founded; as well as every time the artists of Eisenhower Dance take the stage.

Gifts to the Carol Halsted Legacy Fund will support the Eisenhower Dancers and the development of new choreography.
