Fundraiser for the Carol Halsted Legacy Fund for New Choreography

In memory of Carol Halsted, founding Board president for Eisenhower Dance Detroit, former Chair of the Music, Theatre, and Dance Department at Oakland University, dancer, and long-time advocate for dance and dance education, this fund will continue Carol’s unwavering support for the artform she loved.  Please join us, together with our host, Wendy Halsted, for this special fundraising event. The evening will include wine and light hors d'oevres, a performance by Eisenhower Dance Detroit, and Halsted Gallery photographic art for sale. All proceeds will benefit the Legacy Fund initiated by Carol. Donors become part of building Eisenhower Dance Detroit’s repertory through the acquisition of new choreography and will receive:

  • Mention in souvenir program

  • 2 complimentary tickets (special reserved seating) to the local premiere of new work (with minimum donation of $100)

  • An invitation to Open Rehearsal in the Rochester studio prior to the local premiere of the new work

  • Private chat with the Artistic Director for Carol Halsted Legacy Fund donors prior to the local premiere of the new work.

There is still time to donate and enjoy the above benefits!

When one thinks of dance in Detroit, Carol Halsted is the first name that will come to top of the list. Carol's impact on the dance community spans more than four decades and at least two generations of dancers. As the founding dance faculty at Oakland University; Carol was instrumental in hiring Laurie Eisenhower as a full time university dance professor; and together they built the university's dance program and founded Eisenhower Dance Ensemble. Carol was the first Board Chair of the fledgling company. Under her watchful eye, the company was able to grow from a locally based ensemble to an internationally touring and critically acclaimed contemporary dance company. Her belief in the talents of Ms. Eisenhower and her vision of Detroit as a dance mecca, has sustained Eisenhower Dance and the greater dance community. Her legacy lives on in the performances of the children at the Eisenhower Dance Centers in Birmingham and Rochester; which she founded; as well as every time the artists of Eisenhower Dance take the stage.

Gifts to the Carol Halsted Legacy Fund will support the Eisenhower Dancers and the development of new choreography.
