What is an EDD Student Company?
Eisenhower Dance Detroit has five student dance companies for dancers age seven years through high school. The companies provide performance, training and mentor opportunities for the students. Following high school, students may audition for apprenticeship with the professional company.
Student companies appear in pre-show performances at each of the professional company's subscription series performances, which include theaters such as the Berman Center for the Performing Arts, Seligman Performing Arts Center and Oakland University. The students also appear in special performances with Eisenhower Dance Detroit. These have included such illustrious theaters as the Detroit Opera House. This year the student companies will present the fourth annual Dance Mosaics concert. This production will showcase dances of commissioned guest choreographers and faculty who have set works on the companies.
Kids Creating is our youngest company. With a focus on developing and nurturing the creative potential in young children, the dancers have the opportunity to perform in three or more main-stage productions throughout the season
Collage Dance continues to develop the young dancers' performance and technical skills, while also stressing ensemble work and a higher level of technical proficiency. Collage dancers have the opportunity to perform in three or more main-stage productions throughout the season.
CENTER DANCE ENSEMBLE
Center Dance Ensemble is our highest level student company. CDE dancers continue to grow and expand on their choreographic experiences from outside influences and their own movement exploration. They also have several opportunities to perform throughout the year, including the annual Dance Mosaics concert. Master classes and guest choreographer residencies are offered throughout the season.
M. Y. Move, which stands for Make Your Move, continues the exploration of creative movement and focuses on the development of performance discipline and technique. M. Y. Move dancers have the opportunity to perform in three or more main-stage productions throughout the season.
Co. Motion continues the growth and development of the dance performer by expanding choreographic experiences. Master classes and guest choreographer residencies are offered to the Co. Motion dancers who perform in several productions throughout the year, including the annual Dance Mosaics concert.
Designed for the serious dancer looking for a future career in dance, this company will provide students with the tools needed to succeed. Eisenhower Dance Detroit Youth Ensemble is separate from our current student companies. Alternately, it is a pre-professional company under the umbrella of Eisenhower Dance Detroit. EDDYE is a larger commitment than any of our student companies.
