Eisenhower Dance Center has five student dance companies for dancers age seven years through high school. The companies provide performance, training and mentor opportunities for the students. Following high school, students may audition for apprenticeship with the professional company.
Student companies appear in pre-show performances at each of the professional company's subscription series performances, which include theatres such as the Macomb Center for Performing Arts, Seligman Performing Arts Center and Oakland University. The students also appear in special performances with Eisenhower Dance. These have included such illustrious theatres as the Detroit Opera House. This year the student companies will present the second annual Dance Mosaics concert. This production will showcase dances of commissioned guest choreographers and faculty who have set works on the companies.
Kids Creating is our youngest company. With a focus on developing and nurturing the creative potential in young children, the dancers have the opportunity to perform in three or more main-stage productions throughout the season
M. Y. Move, which stands for Make Your Move, continues the exploration of creative movement and focuses on the development of performance discipline and technique. M. Y. Move dancers have the opportunity to perform in three or more main-stage productions throughout the season.
Collage Dance continues to develop the young dancers' performance and technical skills, while also stressing ensemble work and a higher level of technical proficiency. Collage dancers have the opportunity to perform in three or more main-stage productions throughout the season.
Co. Motion continues the growth and development of the dance performer by expanding choreographic experiences. Master classes and guest choreographer residencies are offered to the Co. Motion dancers, who perform in several productions throughout the year, including the annual Dance Mosaics concert.
Center dance ensemble
Center Dance Ensemble, a pre-professional company, exposes high school age dancers to a professional dance experience. CDE dancers have numerous opportunities to perform throughout the year, including the Michigan Youth Arts Festival, Eisenhower Dance performances, choreographic showcases, touring shows and in the annual Dance Mosaics concert. Master classes and guest choreographer residencies are offered throughout the season.
The newest addition to Eisenhower Dance Center programs, Eisenhower Dance Youth Ensemble (EDYE) is designed for the serious dancer, age 12 - 18, considering a future career in dance. This pre-professional company requires a greater commitment than the student companies with longer rehearsals and more performance opportunities. Admittance is by audition only.
EDYE dancers participate in multiple performance workshops, lectures, choreographic residencies, and master classes. They may also participate in Youth America Grand Prix and Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Annually, the dancers of EDYE have the privilege of performing in four professional Eisenhower Dance concerts.
Auditions for Student Companies, Boys Scholarship Program, and Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) participants are held annually in April.
All Eisenhower Dance Center students, new or returning, are welcome to audition for one of the Student Companies and Boys Scholarship Program. Current Student Company members ages 9 and up may audition for YAGP.
